Krafton, the company behind the popular video game PUBG, is working on a new game called Migaloo. This game will be a metaverse game that will allow users to create, buy, and sell in-game assets as NFTs. The game is being developed in partnership with Naver Z, a South Korean augmented reality company. Together, they have invested $36.8 million in the project, with Krafton owning 85% of the venture and Naver Z holding the remaining 15%.

Migaloo aims to offer a “create-to-earn” system, which will allow users to earn money by creating and selling in-game assets. Not much is known about the game yet, but it may resemble something like Roblox, but with NFTs. Krafton plans to launch the game sometime later this year.

Other companies in Asia are also developing similar Web3 games that use blockchain technology. For example, Japan-based Final Fantasy creator Square Enix has announced its own Web3 game, while Japan and South Korea-based Nexon is developing MapleStory Universe in Web3. Singapore-based Razer has launched a Web3 incubator, as well, while South Korean firm WeMade plans to release some of its biggest titles abroad with Web3 integrations.

Naver Z may be unfamiliar to some in the West, but it is a large tech firm with over $172 million in funding. Naver has over 49 million monthly active users across three of its products, while Krafton’s PUBG currently sees a substantial 289 million monthly active players.

Krafton has also partnered with Solana Labs to develop games on the Solana network. However, there have been no public updates on these plans since the initial announcement.
